When I have days off in the middle of the week (or when I play video games all day) I sometimes forget what day of the week it is.

Yesterday was Thursday, which means at night I usually take the trash can out to the street and then by Friday morning, all the garbage magically disappears. Well I woke up this morning and realized all the garbage was still in the trash can because I didn't move it to the magic spot by the street. At least I got the recycling bin out before the truck came. The trash is only about 70% full, so I might not have to make some midnight exploration trips to the park this week.

I'm wearing my 5824 shirt today.

There has been a lot in the news about upgrading Casino San Pablo and making one of the largest casinos in the world. There are also at least two other proposed casino projects in the Richmond area.

I have some mixed feelings about this. I would love for Vegas or Reno to become my neighbors. The thought of playing table games at 3am on a Wednesday is awesome. I could even gamble away my car and be able to walk home. If they somehow legalized sportsbetting in California, I would live in the sportsbook.

However, there are a lot of low or no income families in the area. Having a huge casino so close would not be a good idea. The plan says it would create a bunch of jobs for the area and lots of revenue for the government, but I'm not sure if the potential positives will outweigh the potential negatives a mega-casino will bring.

After thinking over the pros and cons, I decided I don't like the plan for one simple reason: more competition for Casino 5824. (Casino 5824 has now officially expanded to 2 locations.)

3 tv's makes watching the Olympic coverage much easier.

I'm not sure why, but I have not caught the Olympic Fever this year. I usually like the summer games. I like track and field. (Women's beach volleyball ain't bad either.) I think it's because all the track and field athletes I liked from 2000 are not competing or are being BALCOed. Maybe it's because I hate this year's basketball team. Or it could be that the USA does not have an entry in team handball.

Olympic handball is not handball as we know it in the United States. Just like football in the US is different from football in the rest of the world. In fact, internation handball is very much like international football, better known around here as soccer, but they use their hands instead of their feet. It is not the game we play here where we slam the ball against the wall.

I would be more inclined to watch some of the summer games if DODGEBALL became an official event.

Day 4

The house has not exploded yet.

It is getting kind of messy because there is nobody around to wash the dishes. (Kings don't do dishes.)

Day 2

After working an overnight shift at work, I return home, take a nap, then get ready to watch some baseball on tv. However, I find the cable is not working. The people at Comcast must have confused me with Danny, the non-tv-watching-ex-roommate. The king is not happy.

Day 1

About 45 minutes after Jason gets home from the hospital, he calls me to see if we can relocate Casino 5824 to El Cerrito. Not sure if his medication has worn off yet. In any case, plans for building a second poker room were taken.

I cannot play. I have work.

An end of an era...

I've officially moved out. It's been three great years living in the blue box on Park Ave., otherwise known as 5824.

While I was there, we pioneered not a 2TV system, but a 3TV system. We prided ourselves on BBQs. We got rid of bad produce by taking batting practice. We made our movie props on Weapons Making Day. We decided to make the SwingQuick because we thought the QuickSwing cost too much. We put on a comedy show. We learned that Vegas is the only way to watch the NCAA tournament. We hosted a low, low stakes poker game. We had lots of laughs. We started this very blog.

As difficult as it is, I have to close this chapter of my life. I will be moving down to Los Angeles to attend Loyola Law School. I'll be there for three years, and in all likelihood, I'll be staying on Southern California post-graduation.

When I moved back from Philly, the three of us made a specific choice to move in together. We were all in youth ministry and made an effort to support one another in our respective ministries as a community. Now, as I move on from youth ministry into law, I'm sure that I will get their support in other ways.

I'm very thankful for my time at 5824. I can only hope the next phase of my life is as gracious as this one was.

Signing off,
Danny
